JB: Where were you when the idea for Perfect World came to you?
SS: I was at home at the time sorting through some things and the idea suddenly just came to me out of the blue.
JB: What are some of your biggest sci-fi influences?
SS: I read a lot of science fiction novels by authors such as Kim Stanley Robinson and Michael Crichton. I'm also influenced by scientific/technology advances that have been made over the recent years and consider what further advances could be made in the future, and whether or not those advances would benefit us!
JB: What would you say is your most guilty pleasure?
SS: I have a play list of 90s pop music on my iPod! I usually listen to JRock, Rock and Metal but I occasionally still enjoy listening to my favorite tracks from my teenage years!
JB: Are there any more stories set in the Perfect World universe on the horizon?
SS: Yes! I’m currently working on a follow up to Perfect World.
JB: If you could go back in time to when you when you were a kid and give yourself advice, what would that be?
SS: Don’t listen to people who run you down – they only do it because they’re insecure about themselves.
JB: What would you say to new writers looking to get into the field?
SS: Write your novel at your own pace and take your time with your work.
JB: Favorite character from Perfect World, and why?
SS: Adam Larimore. I’ve always had a soft spot for villains and those characters who are somewhat in the grey area between being good or bad. Adam’s on a path that he can’t quite control and his actions have been driven by the actions of others. He’s also such a complex character with many different layers to him. He comes across as overconfident, arrogant and unfeeling, but in reality he’s covering up his insecurities and the pain of his past.
JB: What are your goals as a writer?
SS: I’d love to be able to complete one novel a year so I’m currently working towards that.
JB: If Perfect World were ever adapted into a movie, who would you get to play the parts of Eric and Adam?
SS: I’d be pretty open to casting, but I would prefer unknown actors to be cast in the roles.
JB: And finally, Shari, what's in store for your readers? Current projects?
SS: I’m currently working on the follow up to Perfect World and also the sequel to my first novel, Demon’s Blood.
SS: Many thanks
